The Laguna Phuket International Marathon supports a survival swim programme

Laguna Phuket, in collaboration with Phuket Lifeguard Club, is running a survival swim programme aimed at teaching local Thai children how to save themselves in water. In Thailand, drowning remains the highest cause of death in children under 15. The goal is to raise 600,000 Baht that will be used to provide 2,600 children in Thalang District aged 12-15 with lessons on water safety and basic skills to stay in water. It is our hope that this effort will act as a building block for greater swimming in the region.

Donations for the project have been collected online as part of the online registration for the event. A donation box will also be available at the marathon expo on 8 and 9 June 2012.
