The Laguna Phuket International Marathon supports Laguna Phuket's 'Developing Sustainable Schools' Program.

The school chosen for the new program is Baan Jao Krua School, Klong Kien Sub-District, Phang Nga Province. Laguna Phuket plans to collaborate with the Population and Community Development Association (PDA) on this project in order to ensure successful development of this school.

Baan Jao Krua School was selected based on the following:

• The school’s need for adequate and sufficient facilities – ie. there are only 3 classrooms for students from K1-K2 and G1-G6
  
• The potential and commitment of the school and local community
  
• The opportunity for Laguna Phuket to work with a dedicated school and community and gain more experience for future undertakings

The next steps to working with this school will include a detailed inspection and assessment of potential projects together with the teachers and community members, which will be the basis of our overall implementation plan for the next 2 years.

Donations for the project have been collected online as part of the online registration for the event. A donation box will also be available at the marathon expo on Friday, June 10, 2011 and Saturday June 11, 2011 between 10.00 a.m. and 07.00 p.m., at the Latitude Laguna Phuket close to Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket.
